Chris served as the founding editor of Marijuana Business Daily during the company’s launch in 2011, becoming the first journalist in the United States to focus exclusively on covering the business of cannabis. He now oversees MJBizDaily’s editorial, events, marketing, sales and products divisions. Chris has been quoted as one of America’s foremost cannabis industry analysts by dozens of media outlets, including Harvard Business Review, NPR, CNBC and the New York Times. He earned an MBA in international business from Regis University.
Howard has been in the publishing business for 35 years, with 31 of those in the business-to-business space. The bulk of his career –-18 years – was spent at the entertainment trade paper The Hollywood Reporter, including five years as editor and one as editorial director. Howard has also served as editor in chief of the Pittsburgh Business Times, NJBIZ and Moving Pictures magazine. Prior to becoming an editor, he spent five years as a reporter for publications including The Miami News and the cable TV trade paper Multichannel News. Howard is a graduate of the University of Miami.
Roger is an award-winning journalist with decades of business news experience, covering everything from Wall Street regulation to the oil markets and craft brewing. He’s worked for Reuters, The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News. He’s also worked as a freelancer for MSNBC.com, Inc. and other publications.
Jenel’s journalism experience began two decades ago at her hometown newspaper in Wahpeton, North Dakota. For the past decade, she wrote and edited for a B2B publication and focused on analyzing management, strategy and trends for business owners and executives, ranging from best practices around M&A to how businesses can adapt to demographic shifts in the workforce. Her work earned several editorial excellence awards from the Specialized Information Publishers Association.
Kevin has worked as an editor for several decades at numerous newspapers and websites across the country, including the Rocky Mountain News, the Boulder Daily Camera, the San Jose Mercury News, the Knoxville News-Sentinel and Fox Sports.
Laura has more than 25 years of business-to-business editorial experience for both online and print publications. She has covered broadband engineering, international cable TV, wireless technology and more.
John is an award-winning journalist who spent most of his decades-long career as the real estate editor of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. At different times John also wrote about banking, economic development, cable TV, workplace issues, technology and national and local political issues impacting business. He has also freelanced for Marijuana Business Magazine.
John also published his own real estate blog for almost seven years and was a columnist at the Colorado Real Estate Journal. Before joining the Rocky, John worked at newspapers in Wisconsin, Illinois and Texas.
Kate is the editor of Marijuana Business Magazine, which provides tips and actionable advice to marijuana business executives. She joins the MJ Biz team with nearly 20 years of full-time journalism experience, including a decade managing a wine industry trade magazine in California. Kate graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in print journalism, and her journalism career has included the newsrooms of daily papers across the United States.
Eli has been a data-driven researcher throughout his career. He previously worked as an analyst for Nielsen, where he provided analysis to Nielsen’s retail clients for use in pricing, promotion and assortment decisions. He’s also been a consultant for data companies in the cannabis industry. Eli now employs his analytical expertise for Marijuana Business Daily.
Maggie has 15 years of experience providing agribusiness research, analysis and education to business owners through land-grant universities, with a specialization in agricultural risk management, niche marketing and feasibility assessment. Maggie holds a master’s degree in agricultural and resource economics.
Kristen is a Denver-based reporter for Marijuana Business Daily specializing in the hemp and CBD industries. Previously, she worked at the Associated Press for nearly 20 years. She started covering the marijuana legalization movement in 2009 – when medical stores started popping up around Denver – and wrote about the state’s first legal hemp harvest. Kristen also covered agriculture and politics in Maryland and her home state of Georgia.
A Sacramento-based journalist, John had focused on Colorado politics for most of his career, which included covering the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. In 2012, he covered the Amendment 64 campaign to legalize recreational marijuana for The Colorado Springs Gazette. As then-video editor for The Gazette, he was on hand for the first-ever legal recreational marijuana sale in Denver on Jan. 1, 2014. He’s been writing about the cannabis industry since joining Marijuana Business Daily over the summer of 2014.
Omar has been a professional journalist since 1998, covering everything from international business and Wall Street to politics and religion. Omar graduated from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1998, and prior to that he was a Bosnian diplomat. He is based in Boston.

Laura has specialized in agricultural journalism for the past 20 years. Most recently she served as the editor of a B2B publication and multimedia properties focused on productivity, efficiency and profitability in commercial greenhouse cultivation. She has reported on multiple aspects of specialty crops including floriculture, fruit, vegetables, citrus and cannabis. She also has served extensively on various horticulture industry association boards. Laura is a Michigan State University graduate and is based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Matt is based in the Greater Toronto Area and covers international cannabis markets for Marijuana Business Daily. Previously, he worked as a business editor, photographer and reporter for newspapers and magazines in three countries, covering everything from the oil and gas industry in northern British Columbia to North Korean defectors in Seoul.
Based in Germany, Alfredo specializes in international cannabis markets and regulations. He has an academic background in business and public policy and founded Transnational Cannabis, a consultancy firm that focused on cannabis regulatory frameworks in Europe and Latin America. Previously, he did business development for ICC Labs with a primary focus on developing expansion opportunities internationally.
Nick has an extensive journalism background, having worked in a variety of media and industries including as a reporter on the UK utilities sector for Bloomberg in London. He was also an early employee for successful digital M&A company Mergermarket where he served as the Content Editor. Originally from the UK, he has a BA in modern languages from the University of Wales (Bangor) and an MA in international studies from the University of Denver.
Jeff is an award-winning business journalist who has worked as a reporter and editor for daily newspapers in Colorado, Maine, New Mexico and Alabama. Adam relocated to Colorado from New Mexico in 2017 to join the Marijuana Business Daily team, where he assists in developing content and managing speakers for the organization’s award-winning events, including MJBizCon. Prior to joining MJBiz, Adam held various roles in the banking and insurance industries.
Christa is an accomplished graphic designer who joined the Marijuana Business Daily staff in August 2018. Previously she spent several years designing a group of community newspapers in Tucson, Arizona. Her professional experience includes nearly 10 years as graphic designer and art director of Sail magazine, which included photo direction, responsive design and app development.
Margaret Jackson is an award-winning journalist who spent nearly 25 years in the newspaper industry, including seven years as a business reporter for The Denver Post. While at the Post, Jackson covered both residential and commercial real estate and cultivated strong relationships throughout metro Denver’s business community. Though Jackson has most recently focused on real estate and general business news, her previous experience includes reporting on technology, transportation, telecommunications, government, courts and police. She’s worked at publications including the Fort Collins Coloradoan, St. Louis Business Journal and Belleville (Illinois) News-Democrat. Her awards include best reporting from the Colorado Press Association and business and investigative/enterprise reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists.
